Optical fiber laser is a frontier field in the current laser technology industry and there is increasing interest in its research and application. Compared with other lasers, optical fiber laser has unparalleled advantages and develops quickly, attracting public attention. In optical fiber sensing field, if common wideband light source is adopted in the FBG sensor, the reflected light from FBG is weak, which will limit the ratio of signal to noise and the resolution of the sensor. But if optical fiber laser is applied in optical fiber sensing, these shortcomings can be reduced, or even avoided, which has important academic and practical meaning.The dissertation focuses on the research in fiber lasers and its application in fiber sensing. The main task includes the detailed descriptions on the following subjects:1) The basic principles of optical fiber laser and its application in optical fiber sensing are introduced, providing foundation of designing optical fiber lasers in the following.2) Linear cavity optical fiber laser and its application in optical fiber sensing are researched. A fiber laser with high stable quality and narrow bandwidth is realized. Some related experiment studies about it are performed. Structure design and discussion are done for its application in temperature and strain sensing. And the multiplexing technology of Identify Fiber Bragg Grating is merged in it to realize quasi-distributed measurement.3) Ring cavity optical fiber laser and its application in optical fiber sensing are researched. The important parameters of laser such as output power and ration of signal to noise are analyzed, from which the conclusions are helpful for the optimizing design of laser in optical fiber sensing. Three different structures of it are designed for application in electricity current sensing.4) Distributed feedback optical fiber laser and its application in optical fiber sensing are researched. Based on the principal of shelter way, "point-point" method is adopted to fabricate phase shifted grating, realizing short phase shifted grating fabrication. Using the matrix approach and simulative calculation, we analyze the main reflective spectra character of λ/4 phase-shifted fiber gratingwith the conditions such as strain and temperatures changed and draw some disciplinary conclusions, which have important instruction for the fabrication of phase-shifted grating and its application in sensors. λ/4 phase shifted grating DFB laser's application in fiber sensing is introduced...
