Research Of Cooperative Campus Network Measurement Tecnology Based On Overlay Network

With the continuous development of computer network and education informatization technologies, scope of the campus network has augment constantly, and the fine-grained management has become a new trend of campus network operation. Network measurement is an important method of network management. Wide and exact network measurement can provide intuitionistic data to the network manager, which provide principle, foundation and method to network preformance monitoring, network planning,deploying new application, comparing quality of service (QoS) and network troubleshooting. It is one of the foundation that achieving fine-grained and intelligent network management.With the development of computer science, network measurement technology has made great progress. Measurement system architecture has transited step by step from centralized mode to P2P-based distributed mode or Web Service based distributed mode. Network protocols which are specifically for network measurement have become more perfect. A large number of open source tools which are designed for network measurement bring convenience into research and practice.This paper describes the design and implementation of a new cooperative network measurement platform, which can be used for such network management tasks as distributed quality of service (QoS) measurement, cooperative network troubleshooting. The platform is based on a hybrid peer-to-peer (P2P) structure to realize node management and task coordination.The P2P communication protocol and message encoding are described, other issues like incentive and security mechanisms are also discussed. The typical application scenarios of the platform are finally presented.
