Photonic crystal structure, whose dielectric constant is arranged periodically in space, could provide a band gap distribution. The electromagnetic wave could not propagate in certain directions when its frequency lies between its band gaps. This could be used as another way to control the propagation of electromagnetic wave. We could employ point defect or line defect into the crystal to obtain a resonator or a waveguide respectively. The devices based on photonic crystal take smaller size, possess fantastic characteristics and are easier in integration and miniaturization compared with traditional ones.This paper gives a brief analysis to the photonic band structure of two-dimensional photonic crystal with different types of defect with plane-wave expansion method and finite difference time domain method, and computes the appropriate structural parameters according to the band diagram.As to the two-dimensional photonic crystal filter composed of resonant cavity and waveguide, the temporal coupled mode theory is introduced to analyze the coupling mechanism between the defects. And the modeling, calculation, and simulation of the filter are also performed by the software COMSOL Multiphysics. The coupled structures including curved waveguide, T-splitter, narrow-band-pass filter and side coupled band-stop filter. This kind of four-channel drop filter has a nice filtering performance and could supply a support for two-dimensional photonic crystal devices.Also introduced photonic crystal holographic making experiment, this preparation method based on light beam interference principle, let light-sensitive materials in holographic interference pattern of exposure, light and matter occurrence function and then by developing and fuser, can form refractive index of the medium in space cyclical change orderly microstructures.
