According to coupled wave theoiy, volume hologram has ideal filtering property, and can be well used as a kind of narrow 梑and filter in many practical applications. In this paper, a novel holographic transmission band-pass filter(HTBF) which based on DCG holograms has just been proposed. The innovations of the HTBF lies in the high angular and spectral selectivity which are characteristics of reflection volume holography and transmission volume holography respectively, the normal input!output coupling, the separation of the diffraction beam and the transmission beam, and compact, light-weight structure. We have designed and constructed holographic transmission band- pass filter, using dichromated gelatin as the holographic recording medium. The characteristics of the filter are analyzed based on the coupled wave theory and Bragg condition. The manufacturing technique and experimental results for HTBF are described in detail. The potential applications such as beam combiner/splitter, holographic polarization selector are also presented. And in this letter, we further proposed a design of using HTBF cubes in series for wavelength and polarization selection in optical communications.
