Ad Hoc network is a wireless multi-hop communication system without any fixed infrastructure. The research and challenge of Ad Hoc network is different from other wireless communication systems, such as cellular communication system. The chain-architecture has been invented based on cross-layer design for an effective management of Ad Hoc network. And some contents related chain architecture have been researched, simulated, and analyzed in this article.Firstly, the history and situation of Ad Hoc network has been summarized. Then, some common architectures of Ad Hoc network have been analyzed on the wireless channel access formation. And the chain architecture has been introduced after some instances of Ad Hoc network. In the third part, the chain architecture design has been expounded in details. In a chain architecture network, the communication has been classified to inter-net communication and intra-net communication. And in the intra-net communication part, a controlled channel access method using a special TDMA, which provides a perfect solution of hidden node problem and exposed node problem, has been adopted. The channel access TDMA frame is composed of control access subframe and data access subframe. Both the two subframe are divide into some time slots. In chain architecture, the time slot in data access subframe, during which the transmitting nodes send its data information to the receiving nodes in a burst way, is really the resources. The resources distribution among the nodes in a chain architecture network is done in the control access subframe under a daisy-chain rule. And the control information flow in the control access subframe is really a cycle. In chain architecture, centralized scheduling and distributed scheduling are integrated into a simplex (centralized strategy and distributed implementation), which is to supply the nodes in the network access the wireless channel with equity. And Distinguishable Degree of Connection among Nodes (DDCN) has been defined. As well as, some other studies has been also carried out, e.g. network synchronization, node detection and trace, chain adjustment and rebuilding, power control, routing, QoS, security and so on. At the same time, the limitation of chain architecture has been analyzed. In the fourth part, some characteristics, advantages and limitations, have been introduced firstly. And the chain architecture has been compared with some other common architecture. Then the use environment for chain architecture has been analyzed. At the end, simulations and performance (channel utilization and access fairness) analysis of chain architecture channel access frame have been done. And the delay performance, caused by blocking and multi-hop, has been simulated and analyzed.
