Scientific visualization is a powerful tool for converting a large-scale data produced by science and engineering computing into graphics and images. There is no doubt that the generation of the mass, multi-resolution, multi-phase and multi-type data in marine observation and mode analysis can provide more valuable information for marine researchers. However, the bigger of the amount of data, the harder in control and use will be. With the enormous computer processing power, scientific computing visualization uses computer graphics'or general graphics'principles and methods to convert the mass marine data into graphics, images, and represented in the form of intuitive, it is very useful for marine researchers to analyze and understand the data. The visualization of three-dimension (3D) data fields is the core of scientific computing visualization.The paper takes the multidimensional marine data processing as the main research topic, aims to build an effective ocean oriented virtual reality and visualization platform. The main research contents of this paper focuses on the multidimensional dynamic visualization methods for marine data, ranging from the research, design and development of the multidimensional dynamic visualization methods to the integration of VV-Ocean platform; it takes a general research on the applications and algorithms of the visualization. Based on the research results, a VV-Ocean platform will be developed and integrated. The main contents and results of the research in this dissertation are summarized as follows:(1) The storage and scheduling model for marine dataIn this paper, the features of marine information data is analyzed in detail, the memory organization and storage arrangement for marine data set is presented. It also proposes an out-of-core pattern to exchanging data between memory and hard disk to resolve overload problem in large scale data set visualization and analysis. (2) The research and development of the algorithms of multidimensional dynamic visualization methodsIn order to meet the needs of marine data study,the paper proposes a series of mode visualization methods, such as point mode visualization, line mode visualization, surface mode visualization, volume visualization and time series visualization. It also takes a further study on isolines tracing, contour generating, surface rendering, volume rendering etc. It also optimizes the rendering performance by GPU parallel computing.(3) The research and development of the multidimensional dynamic visualization based on sphereThe ocean oriented virtual reality and visualization platform is a hot research field in virtual reality and scientific visualization area currently. According to several standards for the earth sphere, the paper designs a 3D sphere model based on earth coordinate system and implements multidimensional dynamic visualization based on the 3D sphere.(4) The integration of the visualization module in the VV-Ocean platformThe paper implements the integration of marine dynamic visualization module and the VR-Ocean platform based on dynamic link library (DLL) and runtime loading technology which called VV-Ocean eventually. The VV-Ocean platform has the advantage of virtual reality and visualization and can be widely used in virtual ocean, marine development planning, marine and other relative fields of data visualization etc.
