With the increase of network bandwidth, multimedia applications on the Internet have become possible and more and more popular. However, due to the multimedia file especially video file is too large; the bandwidth of file server would be the entire system's bottleneck when multimedia file is transferring. These limit the further expansion of system. Nowadays, the existing multimedia distribution mechanism is usually unicast transmission. When the resource requests are getting larger, file server cannot provide a stable and fast data services. In addition, in the traditional multimedia system, despite a lot of terminals request the same resource, server will still provide the dependence service for each request, which makes the network have a large number of data packets having same content and easily lead to network congestion.In order to solve the problem of file server's bandwidth bottleneck and improve the efficiency of multimedia distribution, the paper firstly analyzes the traditional multimedia system. On this basis, the paper proposes a media data reliable multicast distribution middleware. The middleware distributes data using the multicast mechanism. It adopts the forward error correction and retransmission technology to ensure the reliability of the multicast transmission. Besides, this middleware open API to other developers. Through the simulation experiment using NS-2, the middleware is proved greatly reducing the bandwidth pressure of server, which can be referenced by future research.
