The rapid evolution of vehicle information & entertainment (Infotainment) system requires an even stronger Human Machine Interface (HMI) system. A high efficiency, low cost, flexible HMI Application Framework will play a key role to the success of the next generation infotainment system. This paper is intend to make a study and implementation of a new HMI Application Framework and its relative HMI Design tool for the infotainment system development, after the deep lesson learnt from the drawbacks of the current HMI system development technology and process. This paper also makes a discussion about a creative, so called "high efficiency cooperative" HMI development methodology that will help to make the HMI designer and Interaction designer working closely in the very beginning, and enable an earlier evaluation of HMI design through the HMI simulation, supported by HMI Design tool, before eventually generating the relative source code semi-automatically. A Demo project, which is implemented as a tryout of the software Framework and Design tool, has indicated the improvement of R&D efficiency and high reusability of the whole system.
