In the common liquid level sensors, the magnetostrictive liquid level sensor is widely used in metallurgy, environmental protection and chemical industry, especially in inflammable, explosive, volatile and corrosive environment because of its high precision, large measuring range, high reliability and security, free maintenance and self revision. Besides, it plays an increasingly important role in the liquid level measurement.This thesis firstly analyzes the operational principle of the magnetostrictive liquid level sensor on the basis of the magnetostrictive effect. According to the influence of magnetostrictive material properties, we select the waveguide material, and raise the overall program of the sensor design through three aspects, including mechanical structure, the hardware and software. The mechanical structure design involves the optimal design in the echo detection device, activity float and shock absorbing damper. The hardware design includes analog circuits design and digital circuits design.The analog circuits design include the pulse amplifier and the echo detection conditioning circuit, while the digital circuits design include LPC1114 central controlling circuit, high speed high accuracy timing circuit, temperature measurement circuit and communication circuit. In the software, it mainly involves the system initialization procedure, UART communication procedure, timer interrupt procedure, SPI read and write procedure, position calculating procedure, temperature acquisition and calculation procedure. All of these design are written in C and debugged in TKStudio integrated development environment. At last, the sensor's static calibration device is put up, PC calibration program is used Lab VIEW, the sensor's static characteristics are analyzed through the calibration experiments.The experiments'results indicate that the magnetostrictive liquid level sensor is not only meeting the design requirements of the stability and accuracy, but also having the characteristics of low power consumption and high compatibility. It well meets the needs of the actual liquid level measurement, and has high application value.
