It has been more than a hundred years since the local teaching material came into being in China. As one of the important parts of the modern school education's development, the local education plays an significant role in the course. Even so, the research of the local teaching materials and the local education is relatively little in the mainland area during the recent years. The Professor Teng Xing who works in the department of education of the Minzu University of China has been in charge of both the project "The Research of The Western Minority Area's Economic and Cultural Types and The Construction of Local School-based Curriculum in Junior Middle School" and the project "The Collection and Study of Indigenous Teaching Materials and Curricula in China" in this context. The former is on the base of the anthropology's theory of the economic and cultural types and it takes two middle schools which locate in the western minority area as the field survey points and does research on the development of the local teaching material and the construction of the school-based curriculum in order to highlight the importance of local education. The latter collects the local teaching materials since one hundred years ago in China and on the basis of the collection the project members do some theory study on the local teaching materials and the local education Both of the two projects provide great booster for the development and research of the local teaching materials and the local education.This research mainly adopts the methods of the text analysis, questionnaire, interview, statistical analysis and so on to summarize and analyze the background, the methods, the achievements and the meanings of the two projects above. It pays attention to the development of the local education in our country and the problems that the two projects meet. The first section introduces the background, the goals, the meanings and the methods of this study. And the conceptions of the local teaching materials and the local education are definite in this section.Chapter I mainly introduces the background, the goals, the way, the results and situation of the project "The Research of The Western Minority Area's Economic and Cultural Types and The Construction of Local School-based Curriculum in Junior Middle School". In this section I take one middle school in province Yunnan as an example to discuss the result and problems of the development and use of the local teaching materials in ethnic middle school.Chapter II first introduces he goals, the way of the research, the implementation strategy of the project "The Collection and Study of Indigenous Teaching Materials and Curricula in China" and the does a summary of the course of collecting indigenous teaching materials. At last the section introduces the theory achievements and related research that the project members have done.Chapter III classifies, counts and analyzes the more than3700local teaching materials the project has collected by now according to different standards. Thus, this section points out the features of the local education and the dilemma it faces and then puts forward some suggestions.Chapter IV discusses the problems of the two projects on the whole and comes up with some ideas for promotion.
