There is a very well known place called Kangding city on the tea-horse road. Although the city is small, it is a very important business center that connects Mid-China and West-China. People in the city do business according to a special regulation called "Guo Zhuang". Many people would think of "Guo Zhuang" as a mandarin vocabulary as the southwest fireplace is called the same. In the mean time, people know "Guo Zhuang" as a special Tibet folk dance called "Guo Zhuang dance"The phrase "Guo Zhuang" in this essay simply refers to the business regulation. What's different is that the two parties doing business do not meet directly, but through "Guo Zhuang" as an agency that combines hotel, store and entertainment."Guo Zhuang" business became popular during the Qing-Dynasty and faded out during Republic of China. Its main function is to serve people of different ethic, mainly Tibetan, Qiang, Han, and Hui to do business smoothly."Guo Zhuang" existed for hundreds of years and served as the agency between various ethics, and recoded many stories of the harmony between different ethics. There is a song named "Kangding Qing Ge" with lyric" the horse jogs on the mountain, the weather is cozy, the sky cover the earth, Kangding is in harmony.""Guo zhuang" as the transition area between Han and Tibetan ethic, served as a stage for business. There are different roles on the stage: businessman from the west, businessman from mid and southern china, and the locals as the agency. There are also workers, blacksmith, and tea-workers. Behind these people are the government and large companies. Together, they form the "Guo Zhuang" business model that units the individual in the city as a large community and also units the Eastern and Western China and Tibetan and Han ethic. This essay starts by introducing the ancient tea horse road, and uses the Tibetan-Yi corridor as the background. In order to help the reader understand how these stories could illustrate the importance of building a harmonic multi-ethic society, the essay emphasizes the relationship between "Guo Zhuang" and different parties. Then the essay analyzes how western invasion triggered the collapse of the "Guo Zhuang" business model. Finally, the essay talks about the modern Chinese economic model, and points out how sustainable development and a harmonic multi-ethic society could be the lead for a new "Guo Zhuang" business model.
