Relative deprivation is a common psychological phenomenon in the Chinese society. China has entered an aging society, the elderly are increasingly becoming the focus of academic fields. If relative deprivation and discontent widespread in the elderly, it will not conducive to older people's physical and mental health and the quality of later life. At the same time, it will not conducive to social stability and unity and harmonious development. Therefore, carrying out the research of elderly relative deprivation has important theoretical and practical significance.Under the guidance of the reference group theory and social change theory, this study attempts to examine whether the urban elderly have horizontal and vertical relative deprivation from the six areas of income, political status, professional reputation, family life, interpersonal and social security through field investigation; If so, how the intensity of such feelings is. Secondly, this study analyses which factors are affecting the elderly horizontal and vertical relative deprivation. Thirdly, this paper tries to summarize the impact factors and provide a reasonable explanation from a sociological perspective. Therefore, we get the rational cognition about the objective and subjective factors of the elderly relative deprivation.In order to evaluate relative deprivation the of urban elderly, this study uses quantitative research methods, the population aged60and over living in Anhui Li community are the research objects.472elderly were drawn out to fill out the questionnaires by systematic sampling method. The data collection method is face-to-face interview. Through the audit data, this research totally has306valid questionnaires. Recovery ration is76.50%.The conclusions of evaluation of the urban elderly in Anhui Li community are as follows:First, the horizontal relative deprivation is concentrated in income, political status and professional reputation. Second, the longitudinal relative deprivation of the elderly involves a wide range, especially in the economic income.The conclusions of the Binary Logistic Regression analysis of the urban elderly in Anhui Li community are as follows:First, comparing with the people who uneducated, the people whose education level is high school/secondary school are more likely to feel the horizontal sense of relative deprivation. Comparing with the people who retire from the government, the people who retire from the enterprise are more likely to feel the horizontal sense of relative deprivation. The lower the monthly income is, the more likely to feel lateral relative deprivation. Second, the lower the monthly income is, the more likely to feel longitudinal relative deprivation. By statistical analysis of quantitative data, as well as a summary of the qualitative data summarized the causes of the urban elderly relative deprivation following five points:First, the elderly have differences in the level of education; second, the elderly have differences in income; third, pension dual track lead to the unfair distribution; Fourth, the elderly based on different choice of reference group; fifth, the gap formed by the high-speed of institutional change and the low values change.In summary, the main conclusions of this study are as follows: Firstly, the urban elderly have sense of relative deprivation. Secondly, horizontal relative sense of deprivation of the urban elderly comes from the horizontal comparison, and is influenced by educational level, the nature of units and the monthly income. Thirdly, longitudinal relative sense of deprivation of the urban elderly comes from the longitudinal comparison, and is influenced by the monthly income.
