A Study On Culture Identity Among The Scatered Urban Hui Resident

The identity of the traditional culture among Hui nationality is not only a reflection of the national cohesion or how the culture changes, but also forces directly effects on the culture itself in various aspects including transition, development and inheritance. Furthermore, it becomes a basic thought which could determinate the future of the culture of Hui nationality.Inevitably, with the growing speed of urbanization in China, the traditional culture identity in urban Hui communities face the unprecedented changes. One of the typical communities is named Qi Jia Wan community in Nanjing. Comparing with the life before, these changes, either in positive or negative, have brought huge differences to the resident in both religion and common customs. In this paper, writer is trying to find the realistic situation about culture identity among the scattered urban Hui resident by the analysis after observing one of the Hui nationality settlement-Tao Yuan community in Jian Ye district.This paper is consist of six sections and begins with the relative propose, background and hypothesis. Also some tough and creative area will be listed in this part. The second section includes the literature review, basic theories and the definition in relative conceptions. Following is the statistics about religious activities which the writer got from mosques in Nanjing. The forth section is the main body. The writer indicates the current culture identity status by means of analyzing both general and special cases from not only the principles of sociology but also the points of views in religion, custom, family and social relationship. The fifth part tries to give external and internal reasons to the weakening culture acknowledgement in Hui nationality. In the end of the paper, the writer does a review about the re-construction and improvement on traditional culture and tries to give some suggestions.
