The basic target of higher professional education is fostering personnel of high quality and high skills. As a compulsory course in higher professional college, PE need not only improve the mental and physical health of undergraduates but also lay a foundation for cultivating high-quality workers and specialists. Langfang Vocational and Technical College which consists of 3 middle-sized vocational schools was upgraded into full time higher vocational college on April of 2003, but the PE course is still the same as that of middle-sized vocational school. Therefore, through the discussion of optimizing PE course, we can not only standardize and consummate our teaching activity, but also explore a way of optimizing PE class in Higher Technical and Vocational Institutions.Based on PE course in Langfang Vocational and Technical College, this paper researched the current situation of PE course, Teaching Staff and Facilities, students'health quality and students'attitudes to PE. It mainly adopted methods of documentation, interviewing, questionnaire, mathematical statistics and logical analysis. It shows that the curriculum of 108 classes in 3 terms is not in accord with the national standard (144 classes in 4 terms). The teaching goal is still the"Three Basics", which is very old. The goal of new course is not clear, and the course lacks of times value, fitness and speciality. Most students like PE, but they don't like contents, because we still use the absolute judging criterion. The teachers in our institute have lower educational level, but the age structure and academic title are reasonable. In the mean time the course arrangement is not reasonable and students'health is common with imbalanced development.According to many documents, PE's current condition, Teaching Staff and Facilities'situation, students'status and experts'suggestions, I Optimized PE course. We adopt two steps'modal, the first term we arrange basic courses, and from the second term to the fourth term we arrange optional courses. Based on our teachers and facilities, we set up track and field, basketball, volleyball, martial art, aerobics, ping-pang ball, and badminton. Besides achieving five objectives set in new national outline, we need to emphasize career goal and life purpose. Based on the classified specialties, we take professional sport as the breakthrough point to structure distinctive contents in PE. We mainly judge students by theory test, sport attending, physical quality and study skills in class. It is different from the past assessment styles.
