A Practical Study On 'Independent Participation' English Homework And Its Process Management In Senior Grades Of Primary Schools

To the issues of English homework design and its management in primary schools in the background of new National Curriculum, this study aims to set up different types of'Independent Participation'English homework in place of the dull, passive and mechanical homework for higher grades students in primary school. Besides, various strategies of process management have designed for both teachers and students. Based on the study of Lindsay Miller's learner autonomy, Stephen Krashen's second language acquisition and Howard Gardner's multiple intelligences, the study is intended to promote students'positive attitudes and interest toward homework. And it attempts to help the pupils to form good habits and methods of doing homework so as to develop their learner autonomy. The whole paper is divided into five chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the background of the research. Chapter 2 presents the general overview of English homework setting and management around the world. Besides, it presents the relative theories. Chapter3 shows the design of the study and point out the problems of English homework. Chapter 4 describes the results and discussion. The main results of this study includes four parts.Three types of'Independent Participation'English homework design: controlling English homework, semi-controlling English homework,'Independent Participation'English homework.Influencing factors on'Independent Participation'English homework Strategies of'Independent Participation'English homework management for higher grades pupils: 1. discussions on methods of doing'Independent Participation'English homework. 2. Homework menu, providing different choices and doings. 3.The use of"homework guide". 4. Peer collaborations and communications. 5. Models. Administrative mechanism of the homework: self-management, administrative help from parents, guidance management from teachers.At the end of the paper , it also analysis the effects of'Independent Participation'English homework and points out the limitations of the research.
