Sound system, grammar and vocabulary are the three most important components that constitute language. Vocabulary is to language what bricks are to buildings. For now, many people regard the teaching of vocabulary as a time-consuming and inefficient process. Most senior high school students consider the learning of vocabulary as a big barrier in English language learning. Viewed from the English language teaching, the more vocabulary the students master, the stronger their ability of using English will be. With the New Curriculum coming into use, senior high school students are required to master far more vocabulary than before, how to effectively improve the learners'ability of vocabulary learning remains as an urgent task to be solved. In China, we don't lay much emphasis on training the learners'learning strategies. Many students cannot achieve satisfactory learning effects due to their improper learning strategies, which may make them trapped in the mood of low-spirits. Therefore, as a extremely important part in English learning, the study on the learning strategies is of great value both to the senior high students and senior high teachers. This research will take the senior three students with pretty good English foundation in six high schools in Wenzhou as the objects of study and aims to investigate their using of learning strategies in memorizing the English words.This research has analyzed how the excellent English learners use the learning strategies, the relationship between the quantity of vocabulary and the learning strategies and the difference between the excellent English learners with opposite genders in using the learning strategies.The survey shows that a great many of excellent language learners can use the learning strategies reasonably and widely. However, as for the self-supervision, due to the pressure of school work, what they have done is far from enough. In the vocabulary teaching, the teachers need to alter their teaching views, not only should they be"language carrier", but also they should be"instructor"of the strategies. Being teachers, we should focus on the explanation and input of words. Something more important, we have to teach our students the strategies of memorizing words. The process of vocabulary teaching should be students-centered. The teachers should use diversified teaching methods to attract the students'attention and consolidate the words that the students have learned.
