With the current reform of the college entrance examination system in our country and the rapid development of the higher technical and vocational education, but the vocational comprehensive skills training of the higher vocational school students relatively lags behind, the higher vocational mathematics education plays a key role in higher vocational education's comprehensive skills training, mathematics education has an important meaning in cultivating the scientific quality, developing students moral educational function and aesthetic educational function to the higher vocational school students. Therefore, it is urgently needed to strengthen training higher vocational mathematics education, find the existing problems of the higher vocational mathematics education in essence. This article makes an item analysis with the item reflect theory, forms a questionnaire which includes 24 problems, its difficulty is between– 1.568 and 3.265and its peak values in the item information function are all bigger than 0.5,.using this questionnaire to investigate the five aspects of elementary knowledge on mathematics , attitude towards study, study habit, cognitive level. Vocational freshman's mathematical foundation is extremely weak, study attitude is in the lower level condition, mathematics study habits is not systematic, level of students' cognition is also in the lower level condition, students cordiality level is at a lower level, so we should improve the mathematic comprehensive vocational new capabilities of the higher vocational school student in many aspects, such as tamping the fundamental knowledge, making them have a positive attitude towards study, cultivating correct study habits etc.
