Professional learning community has become the hot topic for the educational researchers and practitioners. Without reference to the researchers and workers in the ground, since Shirley Hord (1997) formally puts forward to the concept of Professional learning community, more and more schools participate in the creation of professional learning communities within their schools. Specially,Richard Dufour has been putting his model of professional learning community into the implement and turning into the generalization .This article clarifies his concept, character and procedures , and then takes the high school-Adlai Stevenson High School-as an example to represent the course of professional learning community from beginning to now. Also , it points out the outcomes of professional learning communities in high schools through the evidence of those which have deed established different types of professional learning communities .We will take the strategies of professional learning community in the high school as the conclusion.We'll discuss the practice of professional learning community in the four chapters.The first chapter will track back to the rise and development of professional learning community as the ideas to school improvement .Divide the 2004 as the line ,Dr. Dufour has set forward to the principle to the creation of professional learning community .Since then ,the inquiry of professional learning communities have came the theory-construction to the practice-implementation.The second chapter analyses the definition ,character and process of professional learning community ,taken the model of Dufour as an example .The chapter raises the statement to a higher level as the principal which been considered as the guideline of practice.The third chapter takes the history of Adlai Stevenson high school as the example to discuss the course of formation. It continues to state the steps and measure of creation of different professional learning communities. The conclusion is that the adlai Stevenson High School is an effective professional learning communities based on the evidence of improvement in teaching and learning.The fourth chapter summarizes the problems and barriers in the practices. It also put forward to the suggestion of sustaining the professional learning communities. |
