In the language and culture teaching of ancient prose, "the General High School Chinese Course Standards" has put forward corresponding requirements, which are not only of the study of basic classical Chinese knowledge, also of the appreciation of the representative works, aiming to enhance culture attainment and inherit the traditional cultures. As for the status quo of ancient Chinese prose teaching, a questionnaire survey is adopted and, from which we can see students have little understanding of the significance of ancient prose study and lack interests as well. Such problems indicate that word-by-word teaching method brings into classes boring atmosphere and could not deepen into the literary and cultural learning. Thus, this paper aims to further explore the high school ancient prose teaching from the perspective of textbook use, appreciative reading and writing skills.According to the current textbook resources of people's education press (PEP), the quality and quantity of the ancient prose are accessible for students, and the content distribution show some gradience. And the basic task required for high school ancient prose teaching is to integrate the textbooks, comb the development of ancient prose and summarize the famous works by their characteristics of the times and innovation, helping make full use of textbooks.In view of the problems existing in high school ancient Chinese prose teaching and the ordering of each unit, and with the basis on individual text study, this paper furthers its research from the angle of appreciative reading.In individual text study, it is expected to explore into the text from its language, image and meaning. As for the language study, reading should be much valued among the main teaching activities, meanwhile, a reasonable arrangement of the reading program should be given, and the necessary guidance in reading and recitation need to be strengthened.The highlight of individual text appreciation lies in the analysis of the image, which refers to the literature image like depicted image, artistic conception and language with visualized effect, etc. According to the characteristics that each unit is divided based on the prose type, the appreciation of the ancient narrative prose may include the analysis of the plots of events or stories, of the words and behaviors, and of the characters; the appreciation of the ancient prose about landscape travel may include the study of the natural scenery, travel journey and language with visualized effect, Also there are appreciation of the ancient argumentative prose and the ancient lyric prose.You do not come to the meaning of the prose until you could grasp the meaning implied while appreciate it fully. In this stage, you can examine and promote yourself with reference to what ancient people do. However, what we need to know is that we should not be overcritical for the ancient in their position, and in the meantime, we are expected to surpass the ancients, coming up with creative ideas.On the basis of appreciative reading, high school ancient prose teaching should find its value in application. Take into consideration the writing drilling middle school students have, the ancient prose is enlightening in narrative writing as to its artistic techniques, materials, organization and so on. Besides, its realistic meaning, logic structure, argumentation, sentence patterns are also valuable. Therefore, to fully exploit the reference value of the ancient prose in writing not only promotes the modern vernacular Chinese writing, but also helps further the appreciation of the ancient prose. What is more, it directs students to appreciate ancient prose from different perspectives and overall enhances students' Chinese accomplishment.
