Professional knowledge is one of the important content of evaluating the quality of teachers, and also the prerequisite of conducting and guaranteeing the teaching. Thus, it is always the important content to improve the professional knowledge of teachers. PE plays an important role as an indispensable constituent of school education. Whether the professional knowledge of PE teacher is proficient or not can be effected the quality of teaching and the development of themselves. In china, PE specialty which trains for all kinds of sports theory and skills is the main and direct way to cultivate PE teacher in further middle and primary school and have made outstanding contributions for our sports undertakings .With the methods of documentary analysis, questionnaire investigation, interview and statistical analysis, this thesis conducted a special research on the professional knowledge of the undergraduate students of physical education specialty in Changchun from four dimension, that is, the education theory knowledge, curriculum knowledge, sports discipline knowledge and sports teaching knowledge. And the thesis tried to analysis the present situation of professional knowledge reserves of pre-employment physical education teachers. The total points of this questionnaire is 164, and the passing grade is 98.4, accounts for 30% of the total score. there were 56 people who achieved more than 98.4, the eligibility rate was 62.22%. The research result indicated that the undergraduate students who took part in the test had a poor performance in professional knowledge, the level of expertise of students who in the institute directly attached to the state was better than the students who in the institute directly attached to the province. There were significant difference between the two institute that have mentioned above, but the deference between the key institutes and the general institute which attached to the province was not significant. In the aspect of education theories knowledge, the students in that three types of university were lower than the average, so, it was not ideal. With regard to curriculum knowledge, the condition was still far from being satisfactory. There were only 26 students pass the test in the three types of colleges, the pass rate was 28.9%.In the aspect of sports science knowledge, the mean grade of the three types of colleges is higher than the passing grade, both in the theoretical knowledge and the motor skills knowledge. As to the teaching methodology of PE, the total scores was 100,and the passing scores was 18.There were 18 students who passed the test, the pass rate was 30%. Thus, students'ability to master the knowledge of teaching methodology is poor.Accordingly, the author proposed several suggestions to improve. Firstly, increase the students'time to learn and strengthen the training of sports skills. Secondly, improve the students'ability of application by internship. Thirdly, the students should integrate theory with practice, rich the after-class life, and improve social practice ability. Fourthly, it should be pay more attention to cultivate the professional knowledge of teachers and improve their qualities. Also, we should change the concept of valuing the sport skills and neglecting the theoretical knowledge.
