The vocabulary plays an important rule in English learning, which begins with the vocabulary. During the survey of Hezuo Primary School No.2 in Gannan, the author finds out that English teaching is time-consuming and poorly efficient in the school. The reason is that the teacher does not pay much attention to the vocabulary teaching. Though some students could remember a lot of words and read the text fluently, they could not use in real conditions. It's quite possible for students to lose their confidence in studying English and it is harmful in doing so. Therefore the author puts forward the idea to focus on vocabulary learning at elementary stage. After accumulating a great number of vocabulary, the students can solve the biggest problem in English learning, which is the basis of studying English in the future. Although scholars and teachers have been keeping on the research of vocabulary teaching and come up with a lot of methods, these methods could not fit for the students of the ethnic groups. But the task-based language teaching could solve the problem. During the task-based language teaching, the students would take part in a lot of activities and use the language in the real situations. After looking through lots of literatures, the author has found that many researches are related to how to apply in the universities, senior schools and junior schools. Only a few researches about how to apply in the primary schools, especially in the regions of minorities.This paper consists of five chapters: Chapter one introduces the background of the research, puts forward to focus on vocabulary learning at the primary stage and describes the significance of the research and the arrangement of this paper. Chapter two offers the definition, feature and principle of the task-based language teaching and the definition of vocabulary and the situation of the study of the vocabulary abroad and at home and talked about the theories underlying task-based language teaching. Chapter three raises the research questions, methods, subjects and textbook of the study. Chapter four analyzes the relevant data. Chapter five deals with major findings and the limitation of the study and suggestions for further research are put forward.
