English reading teaching plays a quite important role in language learning and teaching. Curriculum Standard of Junior High School stipulates that the purpose of English reading teaching is that the students should gain the information through reading a large amount of up-to-date materials that fit the students'proficiency. English reading teaching should aim at fostering and developing the students'reading skills and strategies in order to lay a solid foundation for their continuing and life-long learning."However, in most rural junior high schools nowadays, traditional teaching methods which over-emphasize explanation of vocabulary and grammar are deeply rooted, ignoring the teaching of background knowledge and reading skill training and failing to effectively foster and improve the students'reading competence. Therefore, it is badly needed to study how we can improve the quality of reading teaching in rural junior high schools.Based on the above-stated motivation, the author intends to investigate the current situation of English reading learning and teaching in rural junior high schools guided by the modern education theory and especially theory of reading teaching. This research also aims to explore the application of interactive approach to English reading teaching in rural junior high schools in order to improve the students'reading competence and level.This thesis consists of five chapters. In chapter one, the author introduces the research background and research objectives. In Chapter Two, the author first discusses definitions of some of the relatively key terms and then gives a review of the related studies. In Chapter Three, the author gives a description of the research methods and procedure. In Chapter Four, the author analyzes the research results. In the last chapter, the author states her research findings and the limitation and pedagogical implications of the research. And then the author proposes some suggestions for further research.In brief, this study shows that the application of interactive approach and the training of interactive reading strategy in rural junior high schools can help the students to improve their reading competence and it is worth to explore further such an approach. |
