In order to cultivate new-type talents to meet the requirements of the times during the 21st century which is an era of rapid development, in 2001, China started a new round of curriculum reform in basic education. Then the Ministry of Education officially issued Curriculum Standard of Biology in Senior High School (Experimental) in 2003, allowing and encouraging the various experimental areas to write and choose different styles of textbooks according to the actual situation and needs in the region. Therefore, according to the new standard, biology textbooks in senior high school presented 5 different versions published by Sino Maps Press, People's Education Press, Zhejiang Science and Technology Press, Jiangsu Education Press, and Hebei Juvenile&Children's Publishing House, which were being tested in Guangdong, Shandong, Hainan and Ningxia provinces. In the fall of 2004, the students who just entered high school in Shandong began to use High School Experimental Textbook of Biology under the New Course Standard published by Sino Maps Press. As the first-round present teachers teaching high school biology, who participated in the course of new-curriculum reform, the author is the direct users of high school biology textbooks (Sino Maps Press), who in the practice of teaching gained some experience. Also, a lot of questions still exist in the content and use of high school biology textbook (Sino Maps Press) among many teachers of high school. In order for the teachers to understand the aims and purposes of the textbook, to provide reference materials for research and better use of materials and to provide views and suggestions for reference for further amendments of the textbook, the author feels the importance and urgency of a comprehensive analysis of this version.The thesis is mainly divided into five parts, of which the first part states the background of raising the issue and the aim and purpose of the research. The second part introduces the research methods of my thesis: Literature research method, action research method and comparative study method and so on. The third part states the theoretical basis of this study and introduces the basic guiding theory in the composing process of the textbook published by Sino Maps Press, combining the constructivist learning theory, the theory of multiple intelligences, STS teaching theory and the basic ideas in the Curriculum Standard of Biology in Senior High School (Experimental). The forth part studies and analyzes the characteristics of High school biology textbooks published by Sino Maps Press. Because the characteristics of teaching lie in the characteristics of textbook, therefore, each specific study has demonstrated a specific case and the instructional design in the teaching process. The fifth part analyses the existing problems in high school biology textbooks, hoping to provide views and suggestions for reference for further amendments to the textbook.In view of the limited time and other aspects, there still remain some points which need to be refined and improved. The author sincerely accepts the opinions and suggestions put forward by the teachers and peers.
