Brubacher. has said that"academic freedom is the academic circles, which can never been given up."American Association of university Professors which has played an important role in faculty's professional organizations was founded to safeguard academic freedom. In recent years, the aspiration of constructing world-class universities and a powerful nation of higher education is unprecedented strong in our country. The attitude of the authority which attaches great importance to the academic freedom is tolerant increasingly. Overall, the current situation about academic freedom is still not satisfied in our country, what is worse, the constructive comments about maintaining academic freedom is still relatively rare. The intention of the thesis is encouraging us to think the possibility of establishing a faculty's professional organization in China.Academic Freedom began in medieval universities of Europe, but the country that has made the greatest contribution to academic freedom is the United States. The reason why the United States has been known for academic freedom is AAUP, which has been making undeniable contributions to academic freedom in higher education. This thesis adopts documentary analysis and case analysis to introduce the background in which AAUP was established, the development phrases, and the achievement of American academia. AAUP is a faculty's professional organization which was designed to advance academic freedom and shared governance was established in 1915. Then, Declaration of Principles on Academic freedom and Academic Tenure was issued, this announcement is the official origin of academic freedom in the United States. Subsequently, AAUP issued a wide variety of Declaration, which played the role of code of conduct for the higher education in the United States, and eventually, AAUP established with tenure system as an institutional guarantee of the academic freedom, and with Censured List and Collective Bargaining as main means for the purpose of AAUP. AAUP defends academic freedom and faculty rights to promote the development of America higher education.Although China has always been advocate of academic freedom, the existing faculty's professional organizations aren't worthy of the name. The current situation about academic freedom is still not satisfied in China, it's necessary for us to take the director and avoid the short of AAUP to establish our own Association of University Professors.
