| Since the early twentieth century, grammar-translation approach has been criticized by direct teaching method. Translation teaching has been continuously questioned and rejected by a variety of new teaching methods in senior high school. Due to its impact, teachers in classroom mainly teach in English in order to develop students'ability of thinking and expressing in English (particularly in some English open class). This thesis takes the cultivation of translation competence in high school as a research object and the study samples in this thesis are some students of senior two in Nanjing Dachang High School. In this research, the writer applies the questionnaire, translation proficiency test and students interview and focuses on analyzing the current situation, problems and causes of the cultivation of translation competence in senior high school.This research conducts a questionnaire survey of 110 students of senior two and 36 English teachers in Nanjing Dachang High school. After the survey, 30 students of different English levels in this school were selected and interviewed. The main research questions are as follows: Firstly, the definition of translation competence. Secondly, the current situation of students'translation competence in high school teaching. Thirdly, the problems and causes of the cultivation of translation competence in high school teaching. Fourthly, how should we effectively enhance the cultivation of translation competence in high school English teaching?The author finds that under the high school English teaching of new curriculum reform, due to the impact of the current college entrance exam, teachers ignore the cultivation of students'translation competence and students also don't attach much importance to it; schools don't provide any elective courses related to translation, all of which result in students'weak translation competence. Therefore, the writer believes that teachers should not only pay attention to the cultivation of students'translation competence, but also continue to improve all-round quality in order to adapt the translation teaching in the future. School should open elective courses related to translation; the relevant departments need to add translation in the National College Entrance Exam. Finally, the author also analyzes the shortcomings and limitations of this study and makes future perspective about the translation teaching in senior high school. |
