At present, the modern college philosophy which is acknowledged originates from the west. But it doesn't mean that we should build our modern university philosophy only based on the western one.In reverse, our modern university philosophy should be built in the light of our native resources and Chinese context, fully manifesting Chinese ethnic flavor. This contex makes overview of Chinese traditional education ideas,analyzes how Chinese traditional education affects modern university philosophy and puts forward personal view on the trend of modern university philosophy development by comprehensive use of literature research, historical comparison, case analysis,abstract thinking method and so on. This research has certain reference value to the modern university system reform.This study is divided into four sections. The first part is introduction. The author first analyses the background information, and puts forward the study issue. On this basis, the author expounds the aim and meanings of study and the main study methods.The second part is a general outline of Chinese traditional education ideas. Chinese original education ideology is fruitful and influential. When the ideology is sorted out and explored, it will provide reference to traditional resources for the innovation and localization of the ideas on modern tertiary institutions. This section includes the education ideology of The Great Learning, Learning and Memorizing, Confucius and Lao Tzu, and other education ideologies, such as the ones of Yan Zhi tui, Zhu Xi, Wang Shouren and so on. The educational thought of Confucius can be divided into four parts. First, keeping the education thought that a good scholar will make an official in mind. Second, believing that "everybody can be saint", Confucius first provided education for all people without discrimination. Third, keeping the sprit of benevolence, and the education of ceremony. Fourth, he invented an educational system. It requires students to combine their study, thought and practice. The teachers should enlighten and guide students, teach students in accordance with their aptitude, and seek truth from facts. The thought of Lao Zi is also divided into four parts. First, taoism follows nature. That is to say, teachers should follow the rules of education. Second, the teachers should educate in practice, not just in words. Third, he advocated equality. That is, extending the same treatment to all students. Third, think from another way, and think dialectically. Cultivate the mind and keep it peaceful.The third part is the analysis of the influence of Chinese traditional education ideas on modern university conception. Firstly, the conception of modern university can be divided into the following three stages:from 1898 to 1949; 1949 to 1976; 1978 to now. China transited into the the contemporary age from the modern times from 1898 to 1949.During the period, the representative educationists like Chai Yuanpei, Mei Yiqi,Zhang Bolin and Zu kezhen advocated the Western educational philosophy actively.The initial stage of exploration of education concept of socialistic university in our country is from 1949 to 1966; and from 1977 to now is the time of recovering and rebuilding the modern university conception. Secondly, analyze the factors which have impacts on the idea of modern university.Main factors are:the influence of foreign advanced university, the thought guide of domestic educators, the impact of domestic environment of politics and economy, the influence of Chinese traditional education.Thirdly, selective analysis on the influence of Chinese traditional education to the idea of modern university. Chinese traditional education has three obvious characters: having clear target of education; taking priority to the moral and education; emphasizing on the improvement of themselves by introspection. All of the three points have deeply influence on the idea of modern university.Fourthly, the developmental trend of ideas in modern universities. This article divided the essence of traditional education ideas into three parts, and puts forward which idea modern university should have under the influence of traditional education idea. The ideas includes the idea that taoism follows nature and the idea that we should never stop continuous self-improvement. The first idea contains what is abiding by laws, what is man-oriented and what is self-government. The second idea contains the double meanings of the harmonious and characteristic development of university. The last idea holds the ideology of putting moral education in the first place, popularizing the general education and serving the society.The last part of the thesis is the conclusion of the results and the drawbacks of the study and some assumptions.
