| The study aims to investigate the general use condition of vocational school students' learning strategies, offering suggestions to both teachers and students according to Grade One and Grade Two English majors'learning characteristics.English is the fundamental course in vocational school. Indefinite purpose, lack of scientific learning method and motivation can lead vocational students to get lower scores. The author finds that most of the vocational school students have difficulty in English vocabulary learning, and the lack of vocabulary directly influences students'learning interest and the improvement of students'English level. So vocabulary learning plays an important role in English language learning, and under the condition, it seems vital essential to take English vocabulary learning strategies study and instruction for students in vocational school.Combining quantitative and qualitative approaches, questionnaires were conducted to 50 vocational students in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering School of Benxi, and data were collected and further analyzed the general strategies used by the second vocational students; interviewing 6 vocational students, the author tried to investigate the problems of using learning strategies and the difficulties they met during learning English.Based on the research data and interview, this paper find only a small group of vocational students realize they are the key factors to the successful learning, and the majority of the vocational students believe the unsuccessful learning due to certain objective factors; Although they hold the idea that management belief is important in the learning process, still they haven't formed the good habit of managing time. Generally speaking, the use condition of Grade 2 vocational students' learning strategies is better than Grade 1 vocational students. After one year learning in the vocational school, besides learning the content of the textbook, Grade 2 students have already adapted to use various resources to help them learn English, open their mind and widen the horizon. On vocabulary learning strategies, vocational students are confined to memorizing the spelling and Chinese meaning of the new words instead of wielding circumstance, association etc. learning strategies to memorize and enlarge vocabularies. The vocational students can be given some suggestions, thus enhancing learning ability and improving English scores. The findings would also provide some enlightenment for the teachers to smoothly perform teaching task. The study would enrich the relevant theories on the study of vocational students' learning strategies. |
