By dint of the policy of reform and opening to the outside world, as well as the industrial production, a great number of peasants have left the hometown to make their livings in cities since the 1970s and 1980s. As migrant workers, they did contribute a lot to the urban constructions in the last decades. However, based on the author's investigation, their contributions do not quite match with that of living conditions which could be reflected at two levels, in terms of the material scarcity and the spiritual barrenness. It is believed that the latter one is more serious and to be more specific, it would be embodied as the emotional vacuity, the unitary value orientation, the ignorance of law, the feudalistic superstition, but also the unreasonable consumption concept and the less intense role-consciousness and so on.According to this research, the writer would comprehensively understand migrant workers' living states by means of the questionnaires and actual interviews. On this condition, it could be pointed out that the factors for spiritual barrenness are diversified, such as the restrictions of substances and peasants' own qualities, and as well as the scarcity of public cultural facilities, the unsound organization and political systems and the like. To the above issues, at the end of this paper, the author will put forward some feasible and practical approaches to enrich the migrant workers' spiritual life and furthermore to promote people's all-round development.
