Ge Gong zhen's"History of the Chinese newspaper"was published in 1927.Since then, the Chinese press study has walked more than 80 years, there has been a lot of works about Chinese press study. However, the achievements are mainly about the metropolitan newspaper development, little research on small cities Press. This thesis describes the development of modern Suzhou Press, which also analyzes the influence of modern Suzhou press on society by the method of history and journalism.Firstly, the thesis analyzes the historical conditions of modern Suzhou Press development, the author thinks that mutation of the political situation in the modern, growing trade, progressive education and the increasing development of national press which provides a system, talent, audience, and funding support for the modern press development. Secondly, this thesis introduces the three stages of development for the modern Suzhou Press. the difficult initial stage described backward paper running and research of the first newspaper in modern Suzhou, the boom stage introduces the new atmosphere of Suzhou press and continue raise the level of running press, the mature stage introduced a maturity running press, this part has describes development of tabloid newspapers and news agencies of the new development. Thirdly, the thesis analyzes the operation of modern Suzhou press, which includes the Journalists and the newspaper vendors` activities in the newspaper industry and competition the issue of press Suzhou and Shanghai.At the end, this thesis analyzes the important function of newspapers in the processes of bringing up new social concepts and the promotion of new industrial and commercial development, and indicates the significance of Suzhou Modern Newspaper.
