The paper introduces the life of William Bouguereau, artistic experience and artistic view, It combines the artistic style formation causes, ideological source and the aesthetic value of works to analysis Bouguereau figure painting works for our reference and study of the new content, specially the interpretation and analysis of its characters. The characters, portrayed by Bouguereau, is not simply a sincere and vivid expression. It can be a academic painter that the later generations look up to, and is his solid writing skills at first. Bouguereau seize the object shape and image characteristics with his keen sense and skill to expressed unique and delicate psychological world of the character. His unique style of painting reflects in technique level, and the most characteristic lies in its long time not for external moving, persistent insists its academic solid road of the art.This thesis is divided into five chapters:the first is an analysis of the current research status to William Bouguereau at home and abroad and the purpose, significance, specific analysis mentality and methods of my own thesis. The second chapter is a comprehensive detailed introduction of Bouguereau, which defines his experience and proposition of art. The third chapter discusses the essential causes of Bouguereau's style from the source of ideas of his creation, which is bonded to the social background-French classical painting, clarifying the similar picture factors and connections between Bouguereau's figure paintings and those of Raphael, Titian, Ingres and so on. Bouguereau's figure paintings have roots in the painting tradition of France's new classical academic, but they are not completely wedded to the tradition at the same time. The fourth chapter is a detailed analysis of the characteristic style, the creation intentions, the composition arrangement, specific features and other elements of Bouguereau's figure paintings. The fifth chapter is a summarization of Bouguereau's figure paintings and a discussion of the realistic meaning and value of those figures, which state the paintings'influence, enlightenment and positive significance upon the contemporary paintings of China. Meanwhile, there is also my own understandings in it. I wish these materials are relatively particular and comprehensive for others to use and study.
