This thesis focuses on the development and innovation of freehand brushwork figure painting in terms of intentionality. The main research methods in such areas as art history, philosophy, aesthetics, literature and art and so on will be used for reference in this paper. Chinese freehand brushwork figure painting has inherited the Chinese traditional culture essence and intentionality is exactly the reflection of Chinese unique aesthetic value. This thesis, by analyzing the nature and characteristics of the intentionality of Chinese freehand brushwork figure painting, will discuss how to inherit and develop the intentionality of freehand brushwork figure painting.This dissertation is composed of three parts including introduction, the main part and conclusion. The main part insists of three parts. The first part is about the nature of art based on its origin. The second part emphasizes the characteristics and aesthetic interest of traditional freehand brushwork figure painting. And third part takes contemporary freehand brushwork figure painter as a case study which thereby triggers reflection on the originality of intentionality. With the change of social environment and aesthetics, the intentionality of freehand brushwork figure painting has been endowed with new meaning. Freehand brushwork figure painting has to realize innovation on the basis of traditional linguistic form. Contemporary figure painters are seeking for more linguistic form coincident with the present aesthetics standards. Looking for artistic linguistic signs with national characteristics is the only road to make creation in freehand brushwork figure painting. With the development of contemporary freehand brushwork figure painting, the changes of perceptions and aesthetic sense and the integration of western modeling concept, the figure painters today have made many explorations and attempts. However, at the same time, they are also facing many new challenges. Therefore, it is of great importance and necessity to go into the nature of intentionality of Chinese traditional figure paintings and figure out inherent essence of modeling of figure painting. Consequently, the excellent products with national characteristics might be produced. |
