| Since the20th century, with the increasingly frequent artistic exchanges between China and foreign countries, Chinese painting has undergone unprecedented changes. Chinese landscape painting has been seeking survival in the twists and turns because the traditional landscape painting needs development and innovation to step into the modern landscape painting. The Chinese painters of the20th century gradually started to focus on the function of landscape sketching in the process of exploring the modernization of landscape painting, and now the landscape sketching has become an important learning way and practical experience. After a long term of practice, the modern landscape painting has been broadened in themes and techniques. However, despite of the achievements, there are also some drawbacks. This paper aims to summarize and learn from the sketching experience from senior painters and genres, and analyze the current situation of Chinese landscape painting using influential painters and genres in the development of modern landscape painting as the examples. The paper will also find out the characteristics of the Chinese landscape sketching through comparative analysis of different concepts and methods for sketching between Chinese and Western painting, and further analyze the status and role of the landscape sketching in the development history of Chinese landscape painting, As well as promoting role in the development of landscape painting. For the status of landscape painting development and needs of the times, this paper will identify how to and what to sketch in Chinese landscape painting, and propose several concepts and methods for landscape sketching with practical significance, as well as some opinions and suggestions on landscape painting teaching in current institutions. |
