With the constant deepening of China's social education of young people, in addition to master the scientific and cultural knowledge,qualities and skills of the other aspects also need to be strengthened. Improving the quality depends not only on school education and professional education, but also requires a lot of extra-curricular practice and training.This requires that young people should receive appropriate training in the literature and arts, humanities and social sciences, sports and other aspects. What's more, with the social development of increasingly diverse, the diversity of cultural activities has also become a major feature of contemporary culture. How to guide young people into the correct cultural development, and improve their overall quality has become the common concern and a focus of discussion of today's educators and community.This paper selects the Old Movies Sharon affiliated to China Film Association as a sample of research.. Based on eight months offield-based participation and research, combined with interviews, questionnaires and personal observation, the paper studied its unique artistic activity patterns, and then explored the function of art education conducted by the public cultural institutions. In the collection and collation of the relevant studies of art education, including the idea of art education at home and abroad, the function of art education of the public cultural institution, the content, meaning, and value of art education, and information collection of case activities, the paper uses the literature method; the observation method is mainly used for the observation and recording of the environment, cultural atmosphere, and how these activities carried out. The questionnaire method is mainly used for members in these activities, using the self-designed questionnaire named A Survey of Art Education Activities, which aims to discover the psychological artistic needs of young people, the educational function of these activities and the superiority of the new educational mode in the form of societies. The interview subjects include three types of people, involving the event organizers,volunteers, and participants, to comprehensively understand the basic status of these activities.The paper consists of three chapters.Chapter one first gives a brief introduction, including the nature of the institution, its developmental trajectory, the results and the pattern of these activities, and then summarizes the characteristics of art education in this case, and the issues arising in the process of such art educational activities. Chapter two focuses on exploring the educational function of art education for young people. At the end of the paper, chapter three analysises how to develop useful art educational activities as public cultural institutions, hoping to have a certain reference value to improve the function of such institutions.
