On Study Of Critical Discourse Analysis In C-E News Translation

As a new approach of linguistics, Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) draws more and more attention from scholars in recent years. CDA takes news discourse as the main object of study and develops specific approach for it. The relative theory and methodology of CDA also have positive effect on the translation of news discourse and are conducive to fostering critical reading and critical awareness. Therefore, it has important practical significance to study and analyze the translation of news discourse from the perspective of CDA.Based on the relative theory and analytic methods of CDA abroad, and CDA on the translation of news discourse at home, the paper studies the original and translated text of five news discourse coming from Foreign Ministry website with specific methods of CDA, from which I can draw a conclusion that CDA exerts positive effects on the translation of news discourse. It also discusses how the translated texts convey the source texts which not only convey the meaning and connotation of the original one, but consider the ideology of target language as well. Research shows that CDA plays a guiding role in the translation of news discourse and it can be a criterion for quality measure of translated texts.The paper involves five chapters. Chapter One is the introduction part. In this chapter, the background, purposes, research framework and research method are described. Chapter Two is the literature review of the studies on critical discourse analysis of news translation, which lay solid foundations for the following chapters. Chapter Three deals with theoretical framework and methodologies adopted in the comparative analysis of news translation. It also gives a brief introduction to the foundations and approaches of CDA, paving a way for the detailed analysis and study in Chapter Four. Chapter Four is a thorough case analysis on the original texts and the translated ones of news discourse with Halliday's systemic-functional grammar and the specific methods of CDA as analytical tools. In this chapter, I also put forward my own attitudes about the tools of CDA utilized in the translation of news discourse. The last Chapter concludes with the summary, advice and the lack of the research.
