Siming Suoji,which was published by Shen Newspaper newsroom in Shanghai,is atypical case of newspapers and magazines in the modern history of China. There weretwelve columns, with the first one published on April13thof1875. It was written inClassical Chinese, and mainly in the traditional poetry and literary works,without anypunctuation, in vertical type. As the rare book in the periodicals, their literature value is noless than any ancient rare book. So on whether the content or the edition value, SimingSuoji is worthy studying.The Chapter One of this paper starts from the history of the modern magazines inChina, then go on with the publish of Siming Suoji, showing the turn in the case of Chinaliterature in this special period.In the Chapter two, I focus on its character of transition, analyzing the methods ofoperating in China modern Newspapers and magazines on the base of the author'sremuneration and so on. So we can know more about the social background and the vivosphere of Siming Suoji.It analyses the content of Siming Suoji in details from traditional poems to classicnovels in the Chapter Three and Four. There are several typical examples which arecombining with the culture of specified regions and special features of the literature. Theywill make us understand the psychology of the scholar in that era. We centre on thehistorical materials value of Siming Suoji, especially on the Tibet and the Taiping Uprising.Thoes rare and precious information can be the key materials for after scholar.The ChapterSix verifies the writer of Siming Suoji. I picked up twenty writers which from famousscholars to common writers to collect and compile their information.
