There are a lot of methods to represent the characteristics of a language. One of the best methods is comparison method between two foreign languages. Through out analysis, comparing the two languages, we highlight not only the characteristics of the two languages, but also provide effective methods which are useful in teaching method. The neighbor relationship between Vietnam and China was set up for a thousands years of culture, history and language. Therefore, it affects each other specially in the area of language. Both of their native langguage are isolating language. This explains why Vietnameses learn Chinese language easier than the other languages and vice versa. However, there still remain many dissimilarities between the two languages that lead learners have many problems to study . To reduce these difficulties and represent the characteristic of two languages Vietnamese and Chinese, lots of language researchers of the two countries conducted a comparative analysis in each specific area.During the time of learning, I am particularly interested in finding out about function of an adjective . The adjective function of Chinese language and Vietnamese language have many similar characteristics. The first similarity is the adjective which are independently considered as noun. The combination of Adjective and Adverb is the concept of adjective in English language. As the adjective stands behind the noun (subject) which is standed for predicate. Although adjective are considered as predicate and the position in the combination of subject-predicate are similar, but the internal structure of the adjective as predicate has many different points and the meaning are also different. In Chinese language and Vietnamese languge, the second similarity is that the adjective can play the attribution for nouns, but the position of adjective attribution and the center noun of two languages is different. The adjective attribution in Vietnamese language stands behind noun (the same in the structure of subject) and the adjective attribution in Chinese language stands in front of adjective. However, the adjective attribution of both languages are ordered under the rule. The adjective is a unit of attribution which are structured close to the center word in phrase, the more it is short the more it closes to the center word. Besides, in Chinese language, it still has the concept of combined word"çš„", which is used to connect between the adverb - center word, complement - center word, as well as attribution - center word. This is the characteristic which Vietnamese language does not have and also is the difficult thing for Chinese study. In the contrastive comparision of linguistics, this thesis based on the Chinese and Vietnamese grammar books, theoretical background, and through out the comparative analysis and errors analysis method to emphasise the combination between Noun and Adjective, in the view of adjective as predicate and attributive. Researching describes the characteristic of Chinese -Vietnamese gammar , special in Adjective usage and function. From there, gathering all the rules of Adjective usage and function, forcasting the difficulties, that learners have to find out the best way for study Chinese as a second language.
