| Along with the rapid development and more extensive international communication of the medicine of China, the demand standard for medical professionals is getting higher and higher and the importance of medical specialty English is increasingly emphasized. In order to spell over English medical reports and exchange medical knowledge with English, the students of medicine specialty should not only have a good command of the general English, but master the medical English. Therefore, the college English teaching in the medical colleges should be relocated in the entire teaching system and the English teaching resources (including teachers, teaching hours, and equipment, etc) should be reasonably distributed and students be actively guided to improve their practical ability of medical English. As an important branch of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) medical English has the bright ESP properties.As a medical English teacher of Hebei North University, the author has discovered many problems in the medical English teaching and the medical ESP teaching of this university is far from enough to meet the growing social demand to medical majors. So the author decided to conduct an investigation on medical English teaching of Hebei North University. First the relevant theories of ESP teaching were analyzed, including need analysis, learning theories, course design methods and teaching methods. Then on the basis of principles of need analysis of ESP teaching and with interview and questionnaire, the attitudes, needs and suggestions of medical students, teachers and doctors on medical ESP teachers, textbooks, teaching methods and course arrangement were investigated. Various obstacles leading to current situation, such as train objectives, teachers and teaching environment, were deeply explored. At last based on LI Jia's study on medical ESP teaching, and with combination of practical conditions of Hebei North University, the concrete and feasible teaching plan was proposed on defining train objective, reforming teaching mode, strengthening textbook construction, promoting teacher training, properly arranging teaching time and optimizing evaluation methods, with a hope that the medical ESP teaching effects of this university would obtain a significant increase in a short term. |
