Painting is a kind of the plastic arts. How to use the modeling language plays an important role in the success of an oil painting. In the works of realistic oil painting, modeling language always serves for the content, the background and the theme expressed by the artist. And it has become the media of exchanging between man and the picture, which begins in the artists and ends in the audience. The production of the modeling language is actually the product combined by reconstruction of a variety of design elements and the emotional theme of the artist.Paintings can arouse the psychological sense of the audience, apart from the composition, color, line and other design elements, the light treatment of the images is of great importance. Light is often the soul of the picture, unifying the various elements to create a harmonious unity and creating a unique kind of artistic conception, in which reflects the training of the artist as well as his inner aesthetic experience of painting. Different artists have their own unique understanding towards light due to their different temperament and aesthetic concepts. While people have similar feeling experience in light and thus result in the convergence of the aesthetic concept to light which formed in conscious. In this thesis, the sense of light demonstrated by paintings is not the objective image of light, but the light color with the aesthetic image as well as the concentrated expression of formal beauty and artistic beauty. Light is more often than not used to express the inner emotions and to reveal the themes of works by artists, and therefore improve the artistic conception.The most important period of using light in western traditional painting is the Renaissance, during which period the Impressionism appeared. In this thesis, the author mainly makes a classification analysis and independent analysis on the most representative works of the masters. Classification analysis is the classification using the types of light, trying to work out the properties of those types of light-using, namely, the concentrated light, scattered light, flat light as well as backlighting, to sum up some techniques in light-using on artistic conception creation. And independence analysis mainly focuses on demonstrating the most representation masterpieces by masters in this historical period and generalizing the way they "application" the light, so as to analyze the spiritual and moral beauty of the artists from the conception created by paintings.
