A Cultural Journey To The West

The purpose of writing this paper is to generalize the state of how Journey to the West, one of the most famous Chinese classic novels is translated and spreads in English speaking countries so as to apply the experience in enlightening and guiding the way we make our own cultural products known by the whole world.The main method of studying is to collect English translations of Journey to the West and documents related as well. This article presents the development of different translation versions according to the path of time. The paper gives a general idea about different translations. And it also offers a specific introduction about the two translations which belong to Anthony C. Yu and Jenner W.J.F. A brief comparison between the two is also presented in the paper.Besides, this paper also gives a overview of the studies that scholars have already done with the novel. These studies focused on different topics such as the origin of the story, the study of mother edition and author.Based on the translation and study, this paper is trying to explore the fact of how the novel is understood and accepted in English world and also inspire the process of spreading our Chinese traditional cultural overseas.The most important conclusion that we can get from this paper is that we Chinese people should learn to propagate our culture heritage by ourselves. With more open minds and attitudes, we can take in the advantages of oversea cultures to improve our own. Only in this way, can we show the spirit of our culture to the world.
