Clara Barton was a famous humanist who found American Red Cross. Her humanitarian thought was rooted in the traditional American religious charity. It was linked closely with American rapid change of society and life in the 19th century. The humanitarian thought not only reflected the distinct characteristics of age, but also had her characteristics and connotation. Under the guidance of her humanitarian thought, Clara dedicated her life to humanitarian projects. Her practice covered the education, disaster relief, war rescue, and so on. The most influential was the founder of American Red Cross. It had important implications in America and international community. Clara Barton's humanitarian thought and practice enriched American charity concept and promoted the development of American humanitarian cause. On the basis of combing the development process of Clara's humanitarian thought and practice, this paper has three parts to illustrate the humanitarian thought and practical activities systematically. The key of the paper is to examine the influence of Clara's humanitarian thought and practice.
