In the late of nineteenth century, the missionary strategy of foreign missionaries became more and more secular. To the purpose of Industrial Mission, the missionaries not only participated in civil activities with great warmth, such as lots of public service, but also established enterprises to attract their disciples. William N. Brewster,a missionary who had sermoned in PuTian area for 26 years, promoted the church's development and keeped church's autotrophism by resorting to the strategy of industry mission. The strategy included running agricultural school, organizing the immigrants to build up "New Xinghua"area, and establishing modern industry such as publishing companies, milling plant and steamship companies, and so on.Taking William N. Brewster of methodists as a case, this article hopes to investigate it on the social surroundings of PuTian area. And in this article,we also hope to enrich Christian research by reaching emphatically on William N. Brewster's strategy of Industrial Mission and his Industrial educational thought,and exploring the relationship of christian and economy.
