Photography only has a hundred years of history, but it developed around the human and served people since the beginning. Therefore, this article chooses the Portrait as a starting point to discuss the impact of the birth of photography on the public view, as well as the significance of the society, it is the emphasis of this article and the view of the author .The article firstly starts from the portrait, runs through the origin of the portrait to analyse the artistic expression of every period, and the gradual decline in historical process. As the forerunner of photographic images, the pop and development of the traditional portrait has made a good foreshadowing role for the vigorous development of photographic imagesSecondly, through in-depth analysis of the early portrait photography and the comparative analysis with the previous portraits, we recognized the birth of photography changed the perspective of the art.As a copy method, the photography has changed the relations of the public and art, it takes the art reproductions into every family and our social life, it becomes the part of our daily life. The photography in the copy era changed the artistic concept of people, and the view of the people also changed the public appreciative view.Finally, due to the essential characteristics of the photographic image, it has a spread property. As a communication method, it changed the human communication way from text to vision. As a visual symbol, it's intuitive and objective and that makes it unrestrained from different nationalities or areas. It doesn't only take the aesthetic enjoyment but also conveys the wealthy information. In the symbolic system of the society, image symbols play the significant role. It makes some aspects of the reconstruction on social system, and changes the cognition, thought and mental attitude of public.
