<Konjyakumonogatarisyu> is the biggest literature collection of story in the history of Japanese literature. But about its author, opinions are widely divided and no unanimous conclusion can be drawn at present, which is the same as the time of its emergence. But inferring from the tales and characters in it, it should emerge after 1120 which focuses on the Buddhist tales and also collects some folklores. It has been praised as"the highest and biggest masterpiece"in Japan's history of story literature.<Konjyakumonogatarisyu> consists of three parts which are India, China and Japan. Over 1000 tales have been collected in it. Among these tales, India and China's Buddhist and historical tales cover the most. Apart from several volumes of Buddhist tales in the part of Present Dynasty, many folklores have been embodied. The diversity of collection is just the feature of <konjyakumonogatarisyu>. The part of Buddhist doctrine in Present Dynasty has collected a great many tales about Japanese monks along with envoys going to Tang Dynasty to study Buddhism. These tales center on the volumes of the eleventh and twelfth.The Chapter of Buddhist doctrine in Present Dynasty is in the eleventh volume of <konjyakumonogatarisyu>, which has collected some dignitary monks'biographies and tales. For example, Kūkai who had gone to Tang Dynasty and taken Esoteric Buddhism back to Japan, Saichō, Ennin who had written <nyutokyuhougunreiki> and Gyōki who was praised as Bodhisattva. It has also collected the tales of Chinese monk Jianzhen who had gone to Japan to spread The Vinaya School.This thesis focuses on the tales of dignitary monks that are collected in the eleventh volume of Present Dynasty (Japan) of <konjyakumonogatarisyu>, which is a Japanese medieval story collection, exploring the reason and the meaning of collecting monk Jianzhen's tales. Based on this, the thesis will further explore the significance of monk Jianzhen's tales from the perspective of Japanese medieval story literature.
