Hu Jintao, the General Secretary of our Party, once pointed out in the report at the Party's Seventeenth Congress in October 2007 that"Nowadays, culture is becoming increasingly an important resource of national cohesion and a factor of comprehensive national power for competition…Chinese culture is an inexhaustible motive force for its nation's continuous flourishing and advancing in solidarity . An overall cognition of our nation's traditional culture should be make and the traditional education of Chinese excellent culture should be strengthened in order to carry forward China's civilization and to construct a common spiritual home of our nation."China folk dance, like the other nations'folk dances throughout the world, is the most ancient artistic form and thus an important link in the long chain of traditional culture, which can by no means be ignored. As a most ancient artistic form and civilization carrier, China folk dance is of rich vitality. Any form of folk dance, whether it is international or Chinese, the historical info and weight which it bears tend to decide its vital role and position in both aesthetics history and culture history. Therefore, to study inheritance and further development of Chinese folk dance is undoubtedly positive to carrying forward and flourishing China's ancient civilization. As a cultural carrier, its rare and fantastic vitality can be sensed. And it even advances and changes vigorously and continuously along with the shift of the times. And the international folk dance takes on such characters, so does the Chinese one. No other artistic form like folk dance can be so direct, vivid and influential, for it manifests directly the character, mettle, airs, life style, natural spirit, material civilization, existence status, and even the religion of a nation. Therefore, the folk dance enjoys an important and irreplaceable position and has become an indispensable part of Chinese culture.Our society today is full of competition, which demands for actual strength, which derives from talents. And the talents come nurtured through education. The ethics and civilization quality of college graduates nowadays and those in ten and decade years directly concern and will concern the appearance of our country in the 21st century and whether or not the goal of our socialist modernization can be realized. The education of Chinese folk dance can not only promote the students'aesthetic judgment and decent personality, but it concerns the forming of comprehensive talents based on cultural deposits, keeping the balance and coordination of various factors in a person in order to improve the college students'overall quality as well.The paper consists of three parts: Introduction, Main Body, and Conclusion. They are arranged as follows: the Introduction focus on the elaboration of the goal and significance of the study of China folk dance, the analysis of the status quo of domestic and international study in this field and the research method and thinking. The Main Body falls into three chapters. Chapter one generally overviews China folk dance and its historical evolution, artistic classification, and its features, and its cultural value and inheritance. Chapter two focus on the analysis of the role of China folk dance playing in improving the undergraduates'overall quality. Besides the factors such as traditional culture message, aesthetics intention, emotion message, skill training, and social groups are also functioning to the education of overall quality. Chapter three deals with how to launch a wide investigation and give suggestion on the education of China folk dance in colleges and universities. And the Conclusion is the summary of the whole paper and gives brief description of the follow-up study of the field.
