Chinese And Japanese Euphemism "and" Consciousness

The euphemistic expression is a universal phenomenon of human language. American scholar Hugh Rawson once said,"The euphemism is so deeply submerges our language that none of us can get down one day without using it, even the same for those brags themselves the straight forward person."China and Japan belong to the oriental civilization, and are affected by Confucian culture. There are a large number of euphemisms in Chinese and Japanese. China has always been known as"state of ceremonies","an ancient civilization", and stressed the"neutral and ceremonial"ideology. Euphemism permeates all levels of Chinese language. Japan also attaches importance to"harmony", so there are a lot of euphemisms in ambiguous Japanese. Although there exists such language phenomenon, and the pragmatic functions are similar both in Chinese and Japanese, Chinese and Japanese belong to different forms of cultural awareness, so the euphemism has some differences both in the way of expression and the practical applications.According to the fact that there are differences in this common linguistic phenomenon, this paper, taking the Chinese and Japanese as the object of study, from the perspective of consciousness of harmony, explores the euphemistic expression and the way of construction of the euphemism in the two fields of taboo and politeness under the harmony.
