Translation criticism is an evaluation or comment on translations. It is a significant component of translation study. It has been widely studied by scholars home and abroad, but there lacks systematic study about current Chinese translation criticism. And among the present study about current Chinese translation criticism, no study has been conducted by adopting cultural translation theory systematically. Therefore, this study, employing cultural translation theory to study the problems in current Chinese translation criticism study, has both theoretical and practical value in helping broaden the visual field of Chinese translation criticism study and in establishing scientific evaluation criteria.This paper takes current Chinese translation criticism especially its problems as the research content, including the confusion of fundamental concepts, narrow scope of translation criticism, limited patterns and methods of translation criticism and the lack of theoretical guidance and evaluation criteria.After analyzing the problems of current Chinese translation criticism, this paper proposes solutions to these problems under the guidance of Susan Bassnett's cultural translation theory. First, this study compares translator criteria and evaluation criteria; Second, it puts forward the broader scope of translation criticism; Third, this paper proposes new translation criticism methods of cultural approach, including moral translation criticism, psychological translation criticism, comprehensive cultural translaiton criticism, and social and historical criticism; Fourth, this thesis also provides a broader theoretical visual-field for translation criticism; Last, there is an exploration of new translation criticism criteria of cultural approach.In this paper, the author also puts forward suggestions for further development of translation criticism. |
