Abstract/Summary:
Nowadays, China is in an age of rapid economic development, gradual industrial structure transformation and quick change in science and technology which requires perpetual enlargement for the accomplishment of Reform and Opening up. The highly education is crucial in the catching up with the change of times. Higher education in China has developed from elite to popular. Major curriculum design relates to the building of the course system and the long-term development of the college, the arrangement of teachers and setting of teaching units and even the outcome of education. Therefore, how to design effective major curriculum for art schools is an issue worthy of thorough discussion.The curriculum design for Art and Design in Chinese universities is directly related to the type and requirement of education for the people needed by that line and important issues such as the future development of this subject, and it directly or indirectly influences industrial, economic and social development of the country or region. In addition, it affects students' career plans and employments, hence the stability of the entire society. So curriculum design is very important. Based on adequate study on the development of Art and Design and its curriculum design in Chinese colleges, this paper compares the curriculum designs from home and abroad and analyses some Chinese designs. Considering the societys'needs, this paper adopts advanced experience oversea to propose a reasonable and feasible improving plan for the major arrangement and teaching of the subject of Art and Design in China. This will provide the subject a reference of Art and Design in China for the education of high-quality graduates majoring in design that meets the needs and the education of individualized designer.
