Amy Tan is a very important figure in American literature in the twentieth century. Her novels are always the controversial targets for the researchers home and abroad. But the way that the researchers used to analyze Tan's works are not very appropriate. They simply summarized her works as a cater for the westerners or only took her as a talented teller. When we truly read through Tan's work, we will be convinced by her unique, rich and profound ethical values of the tracks.In this thesis, the author tries to have an in-depth exploration of the ethical relationships between mother and daughter, different genders, and even within families in Tan's five novels from three different perspectives, namely ethic, criticism and cross-culture. Amy Tan's novels mainly give people a detailed description of the complex moral sentiments within the family and even between people and the society. Quite a lot of her novels involve the subjects of relationships between people. The social norms are well embodied in the ethical and moral ethics within the family in Tan's works. People will witness all kinds of furious conflicts in the special family which combines both American and Chinese culture. Also people will find out what lies behind the moral ethics in the intense conflicts and how this contribute to the conflicts between mother and daughter, between genders and between sisters, and how does the different ethics affect the writer. In the process of addressing these conflicts, the writer's unique ethical values are reflected.There are three parts in this thesis, namely the introduction, the main body of the thesis and the conclusion. Firstly, the introduction part concludes a brief introduction of the writer, the content and the themes of the novels, stating a general actuality of the research home and abroad and analyzing the deficiencies of the ethical theme research in Tan's novels. For the deficiencies, the author states her own research method in analyzing Tan's work, that is, making use of ethical criticism from the cross-cultural perspective. The main body of the thesis contains four chapters. In the first chapter, the author gives an essential summarization of the characteristics of works of Amy Tan from the perspective of ethical criticism of literature. To start with, the author introduces the aesthetic and literary value of the theory of ethics and literary criticism. Then the author applies the theory to the works of Amy Tan, providing a theoretical basis for this article. The second chapter is a detailed analysis of the three relationships between people in Tan's works, which are mother-daughter relationships in the family, sexual relations between husband and wife and sisters in the family relationship. By depicting all the contradictions and problems within these three relationships, the author has an in-depth thinking of the ethics of interpersonal disputes, then actively searing for the key to solve the problem.The third chapter describes the very strong impact Amy Tan has from the differences of ethics between American and Chinese culture in details. Under the influences of different cultural backgrounds, finally the author finds out the source of all conflicts between people. The fourth chapter expounds that all the interpersonal relations finally received amicable settlement under communications and other great efforts from both sides. The binary opposition of culture in Tan's work eventually go to symbiotic harmony with diversity trends. The conclusion part of the thesis mainly summarizes that different cultural background brings its different ethical values. But all cultural ethical differences between mother and daughter, between different genders and between sisters will ultimately go to harmony with their joint efforts. This is how ethical values of harmony come into being in Amy Tan's work.
