| With more and more American teachers teaching in China, more and more cultural conflicts between American teachers and Chinese students have emerged. Moreover, it has been widely acknowledged in language acquisition research that language is the carrier of its culture and cultural learning is an inseparable part of language learning. So to learn a foreign language is also to learn a foreign culture. Accordingly, teaching English is not only a process of teaching language system itself, but also of teaching its culture.This thesis first introduces the basic theories about culture, communication and cultural relativism. Then in the survey study, the sources of the cultural conflicts are analyzed and the different cultural orientations between Chinese and American are compared from three perspectives with the examples from the survey study. At last, some suggestions and methods about how to teach culture knowledge and enhance the students'cultural awareness are given. |
