As one of the most famous writers in Chinese contemporary literature, Su Tong created a lot of vigorous novels. He has established a dense and damp, corrupt yet charming literary southern world. Customs, legends and relationship between people have also been presented in the literary southern world. Generally, river is an important image that appears in Su Tong's novels repeatedly. Su Tong's essays, such as The Secret of the River, Boat, also reflect that the group of images represented by river has provided the inspiration for Su Tong.This paper will start with the image of river; discuss how Su Tong has established his literary southern world based on the image of river, and probe into the change of Su Tong's writing style and spiritual world through the group of images represented by river.It can be divided into three parts. In the first chapter, three groups of images related to river will be introduced. The second chapter focuses on how Su Tong established his literary southern world through the group of images represented by river. The third chapter will continue to discuss the change in the writing style and Su Tong's spiritual world.
